SIP in Bangladesh: A Beginner's Guide

Written by the Bini team · Last updated: October 2026

A SIP in Bangladesh lets you invest a fixed amount into a mutual fund every month on a specific date. A SIP on Bini starts from ৳ 1,000 per month and the minimum varies by fund. You need a BO account and you should check each fund's current terms before you begin.

What is the minimum SIP amount in Bangladesh?

On Bini, the minimum SIP depends on the asset manager: ৳ 1,000 a month for EDGE, Ekush and CWT funds and ৳ 2,000 a month for VIPB and Midland funds. VIPB's two unit funds do not offer a SIP.

Each AMC sets its own minimum and these figures are as of October 2026. Check the fund page for the current minimum before you commit.

Which funds offer SIPs?

SIPs are available on open-end funds because their units are issued on an ongoing basis so you can buy a little every month. They are not available on closed-end funds. Those have a fixed number of units and trade on the stock exchange. We explain both in open-end vs closed-end funds in Bangladesh.

Do you need a BO account?

Yes. A BO account is how your units are held electronically and opening or adding one is part of sign-up, inside the app. Talks are ongoing and soon you will be able to invest without a BO account as well.

What documents will you need?

  • National ID
  • Bank account details
  • Nominee information
  • BO account details

Is SIP safe in Bangladesh?

A SIP is a way of investing. It isn't a promise of safety or returns. The risk comes from the fund you pick: Income funds carry low risk, balanced funds moderate risk and growth and Shariah funds high risk. Read our guide to mutual fund risk before you choose.

Is there a tax benefit for SIP in Bangladesh?

Yes. Money you put into mutual funds through a SIP counts toward the same rebate as any other mutual fund investment. You can invest up to ৳ 75,00,000 and claim a tax rebate of up to ৳ 7,50,000 every fiscal year.

Your rebate is the lowest of 10% of your investment, 3% of your taxable income or ৳ 7,50,000. To claim it, you file your tax return and keep your investment records. Rates and limits are updated according to the latest guidance from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) (opens in a new tab). You can work out yours with the Bini tax calculator.

How to start a SIP: Seven steps

  1. Decide what the money is for and how long you can leave it.
  2. Compare funds that offer SIPs and check each one's risk, costs and minimum SIP amount.
  3. Verify your identity with your NID.
  4. Add a nominee.
  5. Connect your bank account.
  6. Open or add your BO account (on Bini, this is part of sign-up).
  7. Choose a monthly amount you can keep up, ideally with a date close to payday.

Once your SIP is running, review it once or twice a year.

Mistakes to avoid
